Several were hurt during a roof collapse at the Korean Union United Methodist Church.

A roof collapse during Easter Sunday services at a New Jersey church sent 15 to the hospital – but witnesses said the outcome would have been a lot worse had God not been watching and helping.

Boston Newstime reported 75 people were in the church at the time.

“You could definitely say that God was watching over the members of the congregation,” said Samson Steinman, mayor of Rahway, of the incident at the Korean Union United Methodist Church, NJ.com reported. “It could have been a lot worse.”

Congregants said they heard loud cracks shortly before debris began falling around them, the Associated Press reported. One witness said a woman was seriously injured when a big piece of the ceiling hit her directly on the head.

Fifteen were taken to the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for treatment, but only the woman with the head laceration was considered in serious condition, NJ.com reported.

The service was for members of a Pentecostal congregation that rents the church facility. It’s not clear why the roof collapsed, but officials are investigating.
