Chris Copeland, a forward with the Indiana Pacers’ basketball team, and his wife were both stabbed during an early Wednesday morning argument outside a club in New York City.
Copeland was stabbed in the abdomen; his wife, in the arm and leg, WABC reported.
Witnesses and police said the two were attacked on the sidewalk and taken to the hospital. Both are expected to survive.
Police arrested a 22-year-old man and seized his knife, WABC reported. The New York Daily News said the man, Shezoy Bleary, reportedly pulled out a knife and slashed the 31-year-old Copeland and his 28-year-old wife, Katrine Saltara.
Police also arrested two members of the Atlanta Hawks, Pero Antic and Thabo Sefolosha, for allegedly preventing police from setting up a crime scene, the New York Daily News reported.
The newspaper said a second woman, Catherine Somani, 53, was also stabbed in the abdomen.
Copeland used to play for the New York Knicks. The motive for the attacks is under investigation.
